Deepa Gurnani Beaded Headbands
Tuesday, 11 May 2010 by Ashley TurowskyWhile studying fashion at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, Deepa Gurnani designed beaded couture pieces for Alexander McQueen, Ben Maher, Fendi, etc. This experience compelled her to experiment with beading and embroidery techniques, which gave her a distinct sense of style and sensitivity to create her own line.
Her husband, Jay Lakhani graduated from Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC, as a jewelry designer. Having trained under Bvlgari and Tiffany for eight years, he was always drawn to fashion. He looked to create something that would make a statement and give the wearer of the piece a sense of style, glamour, and individuality.
Once married, the two designers worked together and created pieces that incorporated jewellery, and launched their label “Deepa Gurnani”. Their first line launched at Henri Bendels in 2006, and they are now sold in the USA, Canada, Europe, and Asia.
Their current collection includes my favourite- hair accessories. Highly trained and skilled artisans handcraft each piece.
