This bag is so much better looking in person than in the picture. I admit that when I first saw this up on the website, I wasn't too impressed and wondered if it look too similar to the PS1. However, I think Jackie added enough unique details (especially with the main tab, the stitching on the edges, and the rivets) to make this distinct. When I received this bag, I was impressed by the quality of the leather. It is thicker than some of the other leathers, more akin to the black matte. However, it is very soft to the touch. This makes it prone to scratches but I think that with this color, it just adds to the character of the bag as the scratches sort of blend/meld into the rest of the bag.
The bag is quite functional. The flap covers a outside pocket which is quite substantial in size and depth. The main compartment has a detachable zippered compartment. In addition, there is an open separate pocket the length of the bag and the typical inner zippered pocket along the backside of the bag. I took out the detachable zippered compartment to make room for the stuff I carry: ipad, Marc Jacobs zipped wallet, cosmetic bag. There is enough room for an extra book or a sippy cup and small bowl for baby snacks.
Because the leather is on the thicker side, the bag is a little on the heavier side, though I still think it's lighter than the full size Love Me. I think the bag can easily go casual or be used for dressier functions like lunch at a nice restaurant.
I think it's a great bag and have been using it nonstop since I got it. I would make some slight modifications though:
- I wish there was an outer pocket on the back of the bag to make things like cell phone or subway pass more accessible. As it is, I have to undo the clasp everytime to get my stuff from the "outer pocket" under the flap. You can try to leave the flap unclasped, but then when you grab the bag by the top handle, the bag tilts forward, leaving your stuff at risk of falling out.
- The clasp that secures the flap is a little hard to get in and out of. It is like a pushlock mechanism and it tends to get stuck when I push on it to try to get the clasp out of its base
However, these are very minor details and some may argue that it is not necessary.
